Dear Ms.
Smallwood:
The Collections and Acquisitions Committee of the Beaches Area Historical
Society met on Tuesday,
July 19, 2005 regarding the request Mr. Sam
Van Leer received from you on July 15. Much
discussion regarding your request took place,
however your request has been denied for the following
reasons.
1. The Miracle Quilt of Democracy will be installed as a part of the
permanent exhibition in the
Beaches
Center for History, which will open to the
public early in 2006.
2.
Artifact preparation, staging, and
mount building will take place in the six months prior to the
final installation of the exhibition. According to our contract
design firm, Guglielmo and
Associates, Inc. of Tampa, all
artifacts must be on site during the preparation period.
We regret to inform you that loans of items in the permanent exhibition
cannot be made after
installation, since all artifacts and archival materials
in the permanent exhibition play an integral part in
the
story of the beaches.
We look forward to the completion of the new facility and the
installation of the new permanent
exhibition. The Miracle Quilt of Democracy will certainly play an
important role in mid-century community customs and material culture of
our coastal communities. After the museum opens, we
invite you and your family to visit as our guests during 2006. One-time
complimentary passes will be made available at your request.
